As found in the January 1st 1889 Daily Humboldt Times.
“The schooner Challenger, Sedgefield Thompson master, arrived yesterday and moored at Baird’s wharf, where she will discharge a cargo of general merchandise. From there she will go on to the marine railway, and afterwards load lumber for Callao, South America. The schooner has not been to this port for a long time, having been engaged in the Sound trade until two months ago, when she was laid up in the San Joaquin river with the schooner Lena Sweasey. W J Sweasey & Son, of this city, are managing owners of both vessels. Captain Thompson was married since his last trip here and brings his wife with him.”
