Friday January 4th 1889: In the Public Library rooms the Natural History and Archeological Society discuss the characteristics of the creature lurking in Humboldt Bay.

Saturday January 5th 1889: George Craig’s attempt to catch the bullet shot by James Larkin at the Bureau Saloon is unsuccessful. He loses the bet this time.

Sunday January 6th 1889: Relieved to no longer be a Captain of the Excelsior, first mate Paul Iverson, of the schooner Ivy signals his mermaid love his readiness to live on beneath the waves.

Monday January 7th 1889: Recently disembarked from the steamer Humboldt Richard Sweasey wonders “Why black walnut and oak furniture from Michigan for a Courthouse surrounded by redwoods?”
Tuesday January 8th 1889: An evening of dance leads the attendants at Russ Hall to bliss and transcendence as the evening culminates in the weaving of the mazy waltz.
Wednesday January 9th 1889: The creature created from flame at Weaver’s Laundry on First Street rushes upstairs in attempt of escape, ejecting furniture off the second story before dissipating in the midnight air.
